The Arizona Cardinals have never won a Super Bowl. They came close in the 2008 season but fell short to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the final minutes of Super Bowl XLIII.
Needless to say, the last few decades have been nothing but disappointment for the Bird Gang. The good news? The Cardinals have been aggressively rebuilding their team the last two years. Because of their rebuilding efforts, if you are looking to do some sports betting, you might want to consider keeping the Cardinals on your radar.
The Arizona Cardinals Rebuild
After picking up quarterback Kyler Murray as the number one draft pick in 2019 and with a new head coach, Kliff Kingsbury, it was time to start the rebuild of the team.
After a losing 2019 season, the Cardinals had to get Murray, the 2019 Offensive Rookie of the Year, some weapons. In the offseason, they landed wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, improving their overall record to 8-8 for the 2020 season, but still falling short of making the playoffs.
Increasing Playoff Odds
At the end of the 2020 season, the Cardinals were expected to have another grim season in 2021, sitting at the worst odds of making the Super Bowl. So, the Cardinals made some big moves this offseason by signing J.J. Watt, James Conner, A.J. Green, and Rodney Hudson.
Thanks to the addition of Watt, the Cardinals’ Super Bowl chances did increase, going from +4400 to +4100 according to FanDuel.
After the release of the 2021 schedule, DraftKings has the Cardinals sitting at +200 to become the division champs. Making it the best chances of them making the playoffs in recent years.
Tough Competition Ahead
The problem the Cardinals have to face is the tough NFC West. The Seattle Seahawks are always stiff competition and with the Los Angeles Rams now bringing in quarterback Matthew Stafford, the Rams could be another roadblock for the Cardinals. Not to mention the San Francisco 49ers, who should have a healthy roster this season.
The odds of the Arizona Cardinals making the playoffs are much better than they have been, but it is still a long shot for them to land a Super Bowl appearance. Especially with the reigning Super Bowl champs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers favored to be the NFC champions and sitting at +700 to win the Super Bowl again.
Cardinals fans know it is going to be a difficult road to not just the Super Bowl, but to the playoffs. With all of the team’s effort to rebuild, the Cardinals need to land a spot in the playoffs to prove their worth and for all of their off-season work not to go to waste.
