When your brother says you need to get out of the house, you should listen. That’s the lesson from Luis Rodriguez Gomez, a 21-year-old Phoenix man who visited Gila River Resorts & Casinos Lone Butte in early December and hit a jackpot worth $1,100,075 playing Blackjack.
Gomez was only at Gila River because his older brother convinced him to enjoy a night out. The result? The largest table games jackpot in the history of Arizona, according to the Arizona Department of Gaming.
“I was actually down to my last hand when I put down a $15 bet and put $5 on the progressive circle. When I realized what I had won, I immediately jumped on top of my brother,” Gomez told ABC News 15 in Phoenix.

The historic win, which made Gomez a millionaire, came via a $15+$5 progressive hand on Gila Resort Casino’s new King of Cards Table Games Progressive. Players of King of Cards can link with players at other Gila Resorts locations, which can help maximize potential winnings, as in the case with Gomez.
Following the historic jackpot winner, The King of Cards Table Games progressive has been reset across all three Gila River Resorts & Casinos.
“When we installed the new King of Cards Table Games Progressive, this is exactly the exciting win we hoped to have,” said Kenneth Manuel, the Chief Executive Officer of Gila River Resorts & Casinos, Lone Butte.
Gomez plans to take care of family members with his winnings.
“I want to buy my parents a new house,” Gomez said. “I’d also like to buy a new car for me and my family.”
