The ASU Sun Devils kickoff their 2021 season next month, but the football team is currently under the microscope for NCAA violations.
According to ESPN Rankings, ASU’s recruiting class ranks number 36, mostly due to its strong leadership. Head coach Herm Edwards is a football coach legend and has brought much needed attention to the football program since being hired in 2018.
But the Arizona State football program could be in trouble as it undergoes an ongoing investigation for recruiting violations. How is this latest scandal going to impact their season including their odds?
High Hopes For The Sun Devils
ASU has been working on building a solid roster the last few years and this year might be the year it all comes together. With the return of 20 starters, the Devils are looking to have a winning season, with Caesars having them at +450 to win the Pac-12 Championship.
The Pac-12 is a very competitive conference, so winning the title is no easy task. But to be ranked at the top of the sportsbook apps to do so is a highlight for the Sun Devils. As of now, the Oregon Ducks are the favorites to win the title at +275 according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
Unfortunately, the hopes of a winning season for the Sun Devils might be overshadowed but the team’s recent recruiting violations allegations. These allegations haven’t impacted the sports betting odds just yet, with BetMGM projecting the Sun Devils to go 10-2 this season, earning a spot in the Rose Bowl.
The NCAA Violations Details
It is no surprise the NCAA and ASU are keeping quiet about the investigation. What we do know is that the Arizona State football team faces allegations for recruiting violations and is currently a part of an ongoing investigation.
The allegations accuse the football program of hosting recruit prospects during the “dead period” from March to June of 2020. The FBS prohibited schools from hosting recruits on campus during this period.
It is unclear which coaches and staff were part of these violations. ASU fans are hoping the investigation won’t lead to anything significant so they can focus on the upcoming season.
